Shillong, June 29: The 48th Meghalaya State FIDE Rating Chess Championship 2025 concluded on Saturday at the historic Khasi National Dorbar Hall, Mawkhar, Shillong.
Organised by the East Khasi Hills District Chess Association (EKHDCA) under the aegis of the Meghalaya Chess Association (MCA), the three-day tournament was officially recognised by the All India Chess Federation (AICF) and the World Chess Federation (FIDE).
The chess event was held from June 26 to 28, the championship featured 111 players selected from various affiliated districts across the state.
The competition followed the FIDE Swiss format across eight rounds, with International Arbiter (IA) Th. Biju Singh serving as Chief Arbiter.
He was supported by FA Amar Bhandari (Deputy Chief Arbiter), SNA Sumar Selon Ki Lamin Khonglah (Field Arbiter) and SNA Khrawkupar Pajat (Technical Arbiter).
The top ten winners of the 48th Meghalaya State FIDE Rating Chess Championship 2025 were: Ardhendu Sekhar Mandal (EKHDCA) in first place, followed by Silkam Sangma (GHCA), Silseng N. Marak (SGHDCA), Krusen D. Shira (GHCA), Amit Saraf (EKHDCA), Barbith M. Sangma (GHCA), Balseng N. Marak (SGHDCA), Marcosh N. Marak (GHCA), Bonney Joanes Kharbani (WKHDCA), and Pynmanroi Suting (JHDCA).
In the special category awards, Kevinson Jyrwa was named Best EKHDCA Player, Gargee Chakravarty received the Best Female (EKHDCA) award, and Dapmon Bang was adjudged Best JHDCA Player. Other awardees included Khrawbor Makdoh (Best RBDCA), Diego Derian Marak (Best SGHDCA), Bensing G. Momin (Best SWGHDCA), Dibelson Kurbah (Best EWKHDCA), Banshanbor Marngar (Best SWKHDCA), Pringprang Ch. Marak (Best GHCA), Charming R. Marak (Best Unrated Player, SWGHDCA), and Dr. Challangga D. Sangma (Best Veteran, above 50 years, GHCA).
