NONGPOH, July 4: Mawhati MLA Charles Marngar on Friday assured that he would pursue the matter of upgrading the Mawlasnai Primary Health Centre (PHC) vigorously with the relevant state authorities to address the growing healthcare needs.
Marngar assured this during his inspection of three key health centres, viz. Mawlasnai PHC, Thadrang Health and Wellness Centre and Tyrso Sub-Centre.
The visit aimed to personally assess existing gaps in infrastructure, staff requirements and the overall functioning of these facilities, as well as to understand the challenges faced by healthcare workers on the ground in his constituency.
As part of the visit, the MLA also convened a consultative meeting with village leaders and health officials to deliberate on ways to enhance healthcare delivery for the local population.
Accompanying the inspection were Ri-Bhoi Additional Deputy Commissioner Ayushi Pradhan, Additional District Medical and Health Officer Dr AR Marak, Programme Manager overseeing the district’s three blocks Bokstar Syiem, along with local village heads and other officials.
Speaking to the media persons following the inspection, Marngar noted that this visit differed significantly from previous ones he had undertaken during his tenure as a Member of the District Council (MDC), as it was more comprehensive and grounded in direct interaction with stakeholders.
He revealed that he was already aware of some issues plaguing the health centres but the inspection enabled him to identify additional concerns that warrant urgent attention.
“As an elected representative, I will do everything within my capacity to address these challenges, especially through resources available under the MLA scheme. For issues beyond this scope, I will escalate them to the state government to ensure long-term improvements and benefits for the people of this region,” Marngar said. Stressing the pressing need to upgrade the Mawlasnai PHC in response to the area’s growing population, he said that the lack of a dedicated ambulance and other basic facilities must be urgently addressed.
Meanwhile, local leaders, including president of the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Border Area B. Sohtun and headman of Mawlasnai Aiboklang Saring expressed their appreciation for the MLA’s proactive approach.
