Man pushes daughter into canal over affair, arrested

Dehradun, July 20: A Haridwar man allegedly pushed his 17-year-old daughter into a canal, causing her to drown, when she refused to stop seeing a man she loved, police said on Sunday. The man, Pradeep Kumar Dhiman, a resident of Dhalwala of Sidkul, was arrested and the body of the victim, Prachi, was fished out. According to police, Dhiman took Prachi to the Mangalore canal bridge Saturday evening and pushed her into it. When police reached the spot, they found kanwariyas surrounding Dhiman, ready to beat him. (PTI)

Son kills mother for refusing to give him Rs 20

Gurugram, July 20: Refusing to give Rs 20 to her drug addict son cost a 56-year-old woman in Gururgam her life after he hacked her to death with an axe in rage, police said on Sunday. The incident happened in Jaisinghpur village of Nuh district on Saturday, they said. After killing his mother, Jamshed slept in the same house the whole night, the police said, adding that the accused has been taken into custody and is being questioned. Jamshed is a drug addict and has been consuming marijuana and opium for a long time, they said. (PTI)

Boy attacked by pit bull; dog owner booked

Mumbai, July 20: A man was arrested after his pet dog attacked and injured an 11-year-old boy in the eastern suburbs here, police said on Sunday. A video of the attack that took place in the Mankhurd area on Thursday night is doing the rounds on social media, an official said. According to a complaint lodged by the injured boy’s father, the accused, Sohail Hasan Khan (43), let go of his dog, a pit bull, on the child who was playing inside a parked autorickshaw in a residential area, he said. In the viral video, the accused can be seen laughing, with others in the vicinity enjoying the act, while the dog attacked the boy. (PTI)

Int’l supplier of stolen mobile phones arrested

New Delhi, July 20: The Delhi Police arrested a receiver and international supplier of stolen mobile phones and recovered 42 smartphones from his shop in Karol Bagh, an official said on Sunday. The accused, identified as Satender Pratap Singh alias Surjeet (47), a resident of Mahroli in Delhi, was allegedly preparing to ship the stolen devices to Nepal when he was apprehended, he said. “With his arrest, four mobile theft cases were solved in the national capital, and investigations are ongoing to link more cases,” the officer added.
