Shillong, Aug 17: Hunter FC emerged champions of the Independence Cup after edging past Tylli Kawei FC in a dramatic final decided by a tie-breaker. The contest had ended 1-1 in regulation time before Hunter FC held their nerve in the shootout to lift the trophy.
The tournament was organised by the Seng Samla and Sports Club of Riat Laban-Kynjah Phutbol as part of the community’s Independence Day celebrations, drawing enthusiastic participation from residents.
Deputy Commissioner of Food Safety (Enforcement) D.B.S. Mukhim attended the final as the chief guest, alongside the Rangbah Shnong, village committee members and residents.
The event concluded with the distribution of prizes to players of both teams. Hunter FC’s triumph not only marked a memorable chapter in the tournament but also reflected the passion for grassroots football that thrives within the community.
