SHILLONG, Aug 18: A 15-year-old schoolgirl was reportedly attacked by two masked miscreants who injected her with a suspected drug before fleeing the scene.
The incident occurred around 1.45 pm on Monday near the multipurpose youth centre of Jaiaw Presbyterian Church, close to Dinam Hall.
The incident has sparked safety concern among parents and residents.
According to the victim, the assailants rode a two-wheeler – the rider wore a helmet while the pillion rider covered his face with a mask.
After injecting her, they left the scene without discarding the syringe.
“I started feeling dizzy and almost collapsed. I quickly ran to the dispensary at Jaiaw Langsning for help,” the girl recalled.
However, she could not get treatment as the doctor was not available at the dispensary.
The victim was later admitted to Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital after she lodged an FIR at Lumdiengjri Police Station.
She said she did not recognise her attackers but noted that they appeared prepared, as their scooty was already running.
Meanwhile, her mother expressed deep concern and urged parents and the community to remain alert.
“I do not want other parents to go through what I am experiencing. We need stronger safety measures for our children,” she said.
The assault reportedly took place on a deserted stretch of road, with no pedestrians around, which allowed the culprits to take advantage of the situation.
Police have registered a case and are examining CCTV footage from the area, including cameras installed at Synod College, to identify the attackers.
