SINGAPORE, Aug 19: A former preschool teacher in India, Alamelu Paramaguru, has been sentenced to a four-day jail term after pleading guilty to ill-treating a four-year-old girl.
The 57-year-old forcefully kicked and bruised the girl’s shin, claiming she felt the girl had nearly tripped her. She also scolded the child who hugged her injured leg in pain.
The incident occurred in April 2024, and the girl’s mother reported the bruise on her daughter’s leg. District Judge Koo Zhi Xuan announced the verdict, noting that Alamelu did not come clean at first and was not a random stranger to the victim.
He also noted that Alamelu had scolded the child in pain after kicking her.
The judge acknowledged Alamelu’s “not having an easy time” before the offence and her high-stress environment. (PTI)
