SHILLONG, Aug 22: The electric mobility drive in Meghalaya has received a boost with the installation of five public charging stations across the state, offering motorists the rare advantage of free and round-the-clock service.
The initiative has been rolled out by Shillong-based Queency Motors, which confirmed that the charging points are already operational.
The facilities have been set up at Mawlai Mawiong near Frank Motors, at Frank Motors Workshop in Laitkor, at the Frank Yamaha Showroom on Keating Road, and in Nongpoh at two locations, namely Frank Motors and Café Coffee Day.
“This is our way of making the EV journey easier and more convenient. The best part is that charging is absolutely free, 24×7,” the company said in a statement while unveiling the new infrastructure.
It may be mentioned that the move has drawn appreciation from the Transport department, with a senior official describing it as a timely push from the private sector to complement the government’s efforts towards clean and sustainable transport.
“It is a positive step and we expect more such initiatives to accelerate EV adoption in the state,” the official remarked.
The new facilities mark the first time that public charging stations of this scale have been introduced in Meghalaya, signalling growing confidence in the state’s shift towards greener alternatives in transport.
