SHILLONG, Aug 28: A counselling programme for the Border Security Force (BSF) special recruitment drive targeting Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates was held on Thursday at the Soso Tham Auditorium, drawing hundreds of aspiring youths.
Organised by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, the event aimed to provide detailed information about the recruitment process and motivate eligible candidates to join the BSF. The drive, initiated under instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, seeks to fill 300 Constable (General Duty) vacancies exclusively reserved for Scheduled Tribe candidates from Meghalaya.
BSF Meghalaya Frontier Commandant (Establishment) Rajeev Kr. Sharma led the session, offering guidance and counselling to the attendees. Speaking to the media, he reiterated that all 300 posts are reserved for Meghalaya’s ST candidates and urged youth to submit their applications at the BSF headquarters in Mawpat. Additional Deputy Commissioner Shanborlang Warjri highlighted that many Khasi candidates are unfamiliar with the recruitment process, making such awareness programmes crucial. He stressed that the reserved posts present a significant opportunity for Meghalaya’s youth to serve in the force. Warjri also announced that the District Administration will provide free coaching for the written entrance exam to candidates who qualify in the Physical Efficiency Test (PET).
District Sainik Welfare Officer, Shillong, Lt. Col. (retd) Sebastian Marbaniang, and Zila Sainik Welfare Officer, Tura, Lt. Col. (retd) Aibanjob Sooting, also addressed the gathering, encouraging the youth to seize the opportunity.
Of the 300 vacancies, 255 are for males and 45 for females. This includes 191 vacancies for males and 34 for females across the state, and 64 vacancies for males and 11 for females in border districts.
The recruitment process will involve multiple stages, including publication of advertisements, offline application submission, document verification, Physical Standard Test (PST), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), written examination, Detailed Medical Examination (DME), and Review Medical Examination (RME).
The BSF has urged all eligible ST youth from Meghalaya to apply and take advantage of this opportunity to serve the nation.
