SHILLONG, Sep 26: Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar has described the recently launched Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan as a significant step towards strengthening women’s health, empowering families and building a healthier nation.
Addressing a Special Health Camp at Barapani State Dispensary, Ri-Bhoi, on Friday, the Governor said, “The Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan, launched by the Honourable Prime Minister on September 17, 2025, is a significant step towards strengthening women’s health, empowering families and building a healthier nation.”
The Governor noted that the programme goes beyond healthcare delivery, as it envisions women’s empowerment at the grassroots level and ensures that health services reach mothers, children, and students effectively.
During his visit, Vijayashankar interacted with beneficiaries and distributed food baskets to pregnant women and sanitary pads to adolescent girls, reiterating the importance of nutrition and menstrual hygiene.
Encouraging mothers to avail healthcare facilities for themselves and their babies, he emphasised maternal and child health as the cornerstone of a progressive society.
The Governor also visited stalls set up by the Tuberculosis (TB), Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) and other health departments, and appreciated the awareness and preventive measures being undertaken by medical teams.
Expressing concern over the high incidence of cancer and tuberculosis in Meghalaya, he urged health officials, community workers and the public to join hands in tackling these challenges.
The Governor further directed the Deputy Commissioner and Health Department officials to ensure that the benefits of the Abhiyaan are accessible to the general public across Ri-Bhoi district.
Vijayashankar also underlined that the success of the Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan lies in collective participation, where government, community and families work together for a healthier Meghalaya.
The Governor then commended the efforts of the District Administration, Health department, doctors, nurses, ASHA workers and frontline staff for their dedication in bringing quality healthcare and awareness to the grassroots.
He expressed confidence that with their continued commitment, the objectives of the Abhiyaan would be achieved in the state.
