SHILLONG, Sep 30: The Indian Institute of Public Health, Shillong, celebrated the 25th World Heart Day with a community-centered event at Nongdiengngan, Umsning, in the Ri-Bhoi district, on Tuesday.
With the global theme ‘Don’t Skip a Beat’, the event raised awareness about cardiovascular diseases and promoted heart-healthy practices.
The event featured interactive activities designed to engage and educate the community. A free community health checkup was conducted, where villagers received medical consultations and essential medicines.
To encourage physical fitness, a Zumba session was held, drawing participation from attendees of all ages. A handwashing tutorial was also organised to reinforce the importance of hygiene in disease prevention.
Skits by BPH and MPH students highlighted the dangers of smoking, alcoholism, unhealthy eating habits, and addressed the impact of domestic violence and troubled family environments on heart health and overall well-being.
