SHILLONG, Oct 25: As part of World Statistics Day, the Department of Economics of Sohra Government College, in collaboration with the National Statistics Office, Shillong Regional Office, organised a workshop on ‘Statistical Tools in Daily Life’ recently in the college auditorium.
According to a statement here, the programme was attended by students who have opted for statistics as part of their curriculum.
The event was chaired by G. Syrpailang Kharwanlang, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Sohra Government College, while Head of the Department Pyllunwell Hynniewta welcomed the participants.
Key highlights of the workshop included a lecture by Sumendra Nongkynrih, Senior Statistical Officer, NSSO Shillong, who explained how statistics can serve as a useful tool for effective decision-making and policy formulation.
He also elaborated on the evolution of statistical tools, which have made data collection and interpretation easier and provided insights into career opportunities in the field.
The second speaker, Paleshisha Nongkhlaw, also a Senior Statistical Officer at NSSO Shillong, spoke in detail about the functions of the NSSO and the various surveys conducted by the office, citing several statistics from Sohra that were well received by the audience.
