SHILLONG, Jan 29: Farmers in West Jaintia Hills received 111 units of farm machinery and seven Agri Response Vehicles (ARVs) on January 22 under the Horticulture Cluster Development Programme (CDP).
The distribution, which focused on the West Jaintia Hills Turmeric Cluster, was funded by the National Horticulture Board (NHB) and the Planning Department of the Meghalaya government.
Addressing the gathering at the Laskein C&RD Block Hall, Raliang MLA Comingone Ymbon stated that these resources would facilitate farming, increase production, and improve farmer incomes. He also stressed the importance of maintaining the quality of Lakadong turmeric and urged collective efforts to keep tourist destinations clean for sustainable growth.
The machinery distributed included tractors, power tillers, power weeders, portable water pumps, power sprayers, brush cutters, and earth augers. These tools will be made available to small and marginal farmers through 12 Custom Hiring Centres (CHCs) to enhance affordable mechanization and logistics.
