SHILLONG, April 1: In a major recognition of its distinguished service and professionalism, the Meghalaya Police has been awarded the prestigious President of India’s Police Colour by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
The President’s Police Colour is one of the highest honours bestowed upon a police force in the country. It symbolises national recognition for sustained excellence, discipline, courage, and integrity in the discharge of duties.
Over the years, the Meghalaya Police has played a pivotal role in maintaining peace and public order across the state. The force has effectively tackled crime and addressed complex security challenges, including militancy. It has also earned acclaim for its prompt and efficient response during natural disasters, conducting successful search and rescue operations that have helped save lives and protect property.
In response to evolving security needs, the department has strengthened its capabilities by establishing specialised units such as the Cyber Crime Branch and the Anti-Terror Squad. The force has also made significant strides in promoting gender inclusion and enhancing overall professionalism.
Over the years, personnel from the Meghalaya Police have received numerous gallantry, meritorious, and distinguished service medals, reflecting both individual bravery and collective excellence. Assistant Inspector General of Police (A), Sacheng R. Marak, described the award as recognition of the collective efforts and dedication of the entire force.
“The conferment of the President’s Police Colour is a proud moment for Meghalaya Police. It recognises the unwavering commitment, discipline, and professionalism demonstrated by our personnel in maintaining law and order and serving the people of the state,” he said.
Marak emphasised that the honour belongs to all ranks of the force — both serving and retired — who have contributed over the years to building a capable, efficient, and people-friendly police organisation. “This recognition is not only an achievement but also a responsibility. It reinforces our commitment to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and public service,” he added.
