Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift has announced that she has written and recorded an original song, I Knew It, I Knew You, for the upcoming animated film Toy Story 5.
The track, co-written with longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, marks another partnership between the duo following their work on Swift’s album The Tortured Poets Department.
Disney has described the song as a return to Swift’s country roots and said it is closely linked to the character Jessie, the cowgirl toy voiced by Joan Cusack.
The song is being released as a CD single through Swift’s online store, with acoustic and piano versions also available alongside the original recording.
Announcing the project on Instagram, Swift said she had always dreamed of writing music for the beloved Toy Story characters, whom she has loved since watching the first film as a child. She revealed that she was shown an early version of Toy Story 5 and was so inspired by it that she wrote the song immediately after the screening.
Directed by Andrew Stanton, Toy Story 5 is scheduled to be released in theatres on June 19. The film features the return of franchise favourites, including Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Joan Cusack as Jessie, Annie Potts as Bo Peep and John Ratzenberger as Hamm.
The Toy Story franchise began with the groundbreaking first film in 1995 and has since expanded with sequels released in 1999, 2010 and 2019. Swift’s new song will be available from June 5, ahead of the movie’s theatrical release. (PTI)
