Tura, June 10: Residents of Nengkra and its adjoining villages in East Garo HIlls, along with local units of the GSU, GSMC and AHAM have opposed the proposal to open a bonded Warehouse under the Excise Department in the area.
In their joint complaint to the East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, the residents along with the local groups pointed out that the site where the warehouse is to be set up is a residential area.
“The opening of such a Bonded Warehouse under the excise department may lead to several problems such as disturbance of peace, increase in anti-social activities, and safety concerns, especially for women and children. It may also negatively affect the environment and harmony of our area,” the joint complaint stated.
The local groups along with the community urged the Deputy Commissioner to look into the matter and reconsider the decision given for setting up the proposed warehouse.
