SHILLONG: Under the aegis of Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association, members of the faculty of the seven ad hoc colleges in Meghalaya met here on Saturday last to voice their concerns about the non-release of the arrears to the ad hoc colleges for the period from January 1, 2007 to February 28, 2012.
At the meeting the concerned teachers expressed disappointment with the apathy and callous attitude of the government in handling the issue which concerns the teaching fraternity in ad hoc colleges.
At the meeting, the association pointed out that the State government had extended the   recommendations of the Third Pay Commission to the teachers of ad hoc colleges without any discrimination by asserting that they are at par with the faculty in the deficit and state colleges, the concerned teachers questioned the denial of their entitlements and the discriminatory attitude of the State government.
The aggrieved members unanimously expressed apprehension that with the implementation of the Fifth Pay Commission the arrears may be given an oversight by the government.
Ironically, it is the ad hoc colleges that cater to the need of higher education in the rural areas of Meghalaya as a major stakeholder.
