SHILLONG: The police on Monday arrested one Bengia Anthony, hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, for allegedly attempting to rape and murder an Arunachalee girl at Urmasijoh village near Smit on the night of October 7.

“We have arrested the accused. We would produce him in the court on Tuesday,” a senior police official told The Shillong Times on Monday. However, there are allegations that the copy of the medical report was not provided to the victim as desired by her.

When asked about the medical reports, the police official said that the medical tests conducted on both the accused and the victim did not suggest anything concrete to establish rape attempt.

“There was nothing mentioned in the report to indicate attempts of rape,” the police official added.

However, this was contradicted by the victim who claimed that she had bitten the accused in a bid to escape from his clutches.

She also claimed that she had bruises on her body caused by the accused.

Expressing doubts over the medical reports, the victim said that the medical reports should have mentioned the injuries.
