Shillong to host River Festival

SHILLONG: “Nadi, listen to the river”, the Asian Confluence River Festival will be held at the State Convention Center and Aurobindo Institute premises here from July 15-16.
The event is being organised by the Asia Confluence in collaboration with the State Government and Maulana Abul Kamal Azad Institute of Asian Studies with a focus on common rivers between the North Eastern states and the region’s eastern neighbours and would delve on riverine routes and their relation to trade, communication, connectivity, tourism etc., besides other issues.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Sabyasachi Dutta, director, Asian Confluence said, “There will be three stakeholder dialogues on tourism, media, and connecting institutions. Special focus will be on the shared borders with North East states’ immediate neighbor Bangladesh. Other countries attending the festival include Bhutan, Nepal and Myanmar.”
Noted speakers during the policy dialogue meetings will include Union Minister, Suresh Prabhu and Bangladesh Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Rashed Khan Menon among others.
Governor V Shanmuganathan will attend the valedictory function of this festival.
While policy dialogue has been scheduled for July 15, interactions with stakeholders including media persons will be held on July 16.
Cultural presentations, networking meets, live exhibitions, crafts bazar, art and photography contests will be held on both the days at  Aurobindo Institute premises .
