West JH celebrates RTI week

JOWAI: As part of the Right to Information (RTI) Week celebration, the office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills in collaboration with the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute, Shillong organized a one day seminar on the Right to Information Act, 2005 at the DC’s conference Hall here on Friday.
The Meghalaya State Chief Information Commissioner, BPO Warjri attended the seminar as the guest speaker.
Speaking on the importance of the roles and responsibilities of the Public Information Officers (PIO’s), Warjri said ” While ignorance can be blissful as it leads to freedom, there is also a dark side to ignorance which blinds us from the truth. Therefore, as human being we need to get out of the blissful state to know the truth.”
He emphasized on the need to understand the importance of RTI in order to exercise our rights.
Meanwhile,welcoming all to the seminar, Deputy Commissioner Arun Kumar Kembhavi, briefed the objectives of RTI stating that it leads to empowerment of citizens, promotes transparency and accountably in the working of the Government which gives the Citizens right to access any information.
Additional Deputy Commissioner & Public Information Officer, Office of the Deputy Commissioner, S.C Laloo, informed that the District Administration had conducted RTI on Wheels announcement in all localities of Jowai town.
A film of the street play performed by Thomas Jones Synod College theater group on October 12 was also screened on the event.
