TURA: The Centre has approved a road project for North Garo Hills proposed by Tura MP Conrad Sangma. The dilapidated 38-km stretch of road from Damra in Assam to Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills through Mendipathar could not be repaired owing to lack of fund. Since the stretch between Resubelpara and Bajengdoba is a single-lane road and is in an equally decrepit condition, it becomes difficult for local commuters, especially during emergency.
“The road is in a deplorable condition. The 38-km stretch on completion will help the people of the area,” said Sangma and informed that the Centre has also approved several proposals for developing tourism, road and air connectivity.
Sangma also thanked DoNER Ministry and North Eastern Council (NEC) for taking up the project, which is listed under the North East Road Sector Development Scheme for FY18.
