Physiotherapy centre opened

An Orthopedic-cum-physiotherapy centre was opened at the Shillong Civil Hospital on Feb 25. This is the first of its kind in the North-East. The Centre, which when completed will have provision for artificial limb fitting, has been set-up by the Talent, Club of Shillong a ladies’ service organization.

The Club has already spent an amount of Rs. 75,000. It is likely to contribute more in the immediate future. In all four specialists are attached to the Centre.

Inaugurating the Centre, Governor Prakash Mehrotra lauded the efforts of the Club. He hoped that the people of the region would contribute generously to achieve the ultimate objective of upgrading the present centre into a fullfledged Physiotherapy -cum-orthopedic-cum Artificial Limb Manufacturing and Rehabilitation Centre.

The President of the Club, Mrs Preeti Mehrotra, who presided, said that a number of equipments had been installed in the centre and some more would be added soon.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister Capt Sangma was also present at the function. Others who spoke on the occasion included the State Home Minister Mr D. D. Lapang, the Health Minister Mr Sandford. K. Marak, the NEC Secretary Mr P.H. Trivedi and the Meghalaya Chief Secretary Mrs P. P. Trivedi.
