SHILLONG: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) will boycott the Presidential election scheduled for July 17. In a press statement issued here in the wake of Wednesday’s  the meeting of its central executive committee, the   said it had decided not to take part in the Presidential election citing their principle  not support to any of the candidate put up by both the Congress and the BJP.

Asserting that they will not support the BJP-backed candidate Ram Nath Kovind for his anti-secular stand, the party stated, “In March 26, 2010, he had said, ‘ Christianity and Islam are alien to the nation.’ Hence, on this basis we will not support him.”

Referring to the Congress candidate, Meira Kumar, the HSPDP said, “Congress has ruined the country through corruption.”

Criticising to the Congress-led government in the state, the  HSPDP stated that the Congress had not been able to  put up  satisfactory performance in governing the state.

The HSPDP did not attend the Meira Kumar’s address on Wednesday in the State Assembly.
