SHILLONG: Prominent leaders are likely to be inducted into BJP during the visit of national party president Amit Shah to the State on August 12, party sources said.
The one-day visit assumes significance as the State will go to the polls in the early part of next year.
BJP hopes to rope in many aspiring members to ensure its victory in the polls, sources claimed.
Though there are reports that a good number of MLAs will join during Shah’s visit, the state party leadership is tight-lipped on the matter.
During his visit, Shah will inaugurate the party office on Bivar Road and address party workers.
It is not yet clear whether he will meet the prominent citizens, NGOs and religious leaders this time as he did during his last visit to Shillong in April, 2015.
When asked what is the response of people to BJP, Bashailang Khongwir, general secretary of state BJP told The Shillong Times that the mood of the people is upbeat. “The BJP will put up candidates in all the 60 constituencies,” he said.
