NONGPOH: In order to promote and preserve the traditional musical instruments in the State, the Department of Arts and Culture organised a week-long workshop for the youths at District Library Auditorium in Nongpoh.
The workshop commenced on Tuesday and was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, C.P Gotmare in the presence of D. Kharjana, Arts and Culture officer.
The motive of the workshop is to impart essential knowledge to the youths particularly school children on the importance of Khasi traditional musical instruments on how to craft, play and preserve and also to motivate the participants to take its benefits as a profession in their future career.
The DC lauded and appreciated the initiative taken by the Department of Arts and Culture.
“It is the need of the hour to learn on crafting, playing and preserving all these instruments for future generation. Most of the youths would not have the knowledge of using these instruments, which might lead to extinction of such artistic instruments,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
