SHILLONG: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not started the process of selecting its candidates for the 2018 Assembly elections but the party has said it will be ready with the first list by December.
Speaking to The Shillong Times here on Saturday, BJP State President Shibun Lyngdoh said the party has not started the process of selecting candidates because according to the party’s guidelines, it should complete its organisation and for that they will soon have three booth sammelans in Jowai, Tura and Shillong.
“After this sammelan, we will ask for applications from candidates and after the visit of the national president (Amit Shah), the party is hoping to declare the candidates,” he said.
Shah is likely to visit Meghalaya after the Gujarat elections in December.
While BJP is waiting for the organisational set-up to be complete, the party is hoping that some prominent leaders who are not contesting the elections may join the party. According to Lyngdoh, the Election Committee will also be formed at the end of November which will be followed by the distribution of applications.
Lyngdoh also informed that the BJP central command has completed one round of internal survey and the final survey will be over in December.
