SHILLONG: The state BJP leadership has demanded public apology from AICC president Rahul Gandhi for his allegations that the saffron party was offering money to churches in Meghalaya to buy the people of the state.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh said, “We don’t believe in buying and selling of votes.”
Accusing the Congress-led government in the state of doing nothing except laying foundation stones, Lyngdoh said before the 2013 Assembly polls, the previous government had laid the foundation stone for a medical college but again laid the base for the same recently.
Lyngdoh clarified that the Centre allotted funds for churches in Meghalaya falling under the Swadesh Darshan scheme to make religious places attractive to visitors.
He also said churches in the state are not involved in politics.
BJP spokesperson JA Lyngdoh said it was an insult to the people of the state to say the saffron party offered money to churches and the people.
