JOWAI/SHILLONG: Amwi-Khliehtyrshi MDC, Madonbai Rymbai was unanimously elected as the new chief executive member during a special session of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) here on Thursday.
Rymbai was elected as the CEM following the resignation of Moonlight Pariat as the head of the Council.
The new executive committee under the leadership of Rymbai will comprise members from both the Congress and the NPP.
Speaking during the felicitation of the new CEM, Pariat highlighted the financial crisis in the JHADC. He informed that the Council’s share of royalty from major minerals is nearly nil due to the NGT ban on coal mining. He also stressed on the leakage of revenue from export of coal and limestone as hundreds of trucks are illegally transporting the minerals without valid documents and in excess of the permitted load.
Pariat urged the new leader and the new EC to look into the matter so that leakage of revenue can be plugged.
Others MDCs spoke on irregular staff salary, excess staff and the financial crunch in the JHADC.
