NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday posted the case against the National Green Tribunal’s ban order on coal mining in Meghalaya for August 27 since the Centre came out with some proposals which could not be studied by the state due to shortage of time.
Earlier, during a hearing on the matter, the state had submitted that the mining guidelines and rules have already been forwarded to the respective ministries.
While the matter related to coal mining is still pending with the NGT since April 17, 2014, the state government had already moved the Centre to exempt Meghalaya, a scheduled area, from the purview of central mining laws, but the matter is still pending.
The court allowed the state to study the proposals of the Centre after which the hearing will be made.
