Mujahideen operative held in Byrnihat

GUWAHATI: Assam police on Saturday arrested one more suspected operative of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen(HuM), Omar Farooq from Byrnihat area on Assam-Meghalaya boundary. The arrested person was brought to Dispur police station here.Omar Farooq hails from Soalbari area of Hojai and was suspected to be maintaining close relation with Kamar-uz-Zama, the HuM operative arrested from Kanpur of the Anti-Terror Squad of Uttar Pradesh police on Thursday.
Police said HuM had transferred money from Kashmir to Omar Farooq’s account for the purpose strengthening HuM network in the state.
With this arrest, Assam Police have so far arrested three suspected Hizb-ul-Mujahideen operatives in the state since Friday following the arrest of HuM operative Kamar-uz-Zama in Kanpur.
Assam Police on Friday arrested one Shah Nawaz Alam from Jamunamukh area in Nagaon district on Friday for his alleged link with banned HuM.  He was remanded to six days’ police custody on production in the local court. Alam is accused of being an accomplice of Kamar-uz-Zama who was arrested by UP Police. Kamar-uz-Zama hails from Assam’s Nagaon district.
Another suspected HuM operative was arrested by Assam Police on Saturday from No.8 Udalee village at Lanka in Nagaon district of Assam. The arrested person is a college student identified as Saidul Alam.  He is a childhood friend of Kamar-uz-Zaman who hails from Jamunamukh in Nagaon district of Assam. Saidul was missing for the last three months.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Police, Hojai district on Saturday informed that HuM was planning to strike terror in a big way in the Railway town of Lumding in the district.  He said arrested HuM operatives Shah Nawaz Alam and Saidul Alam were entrusted the responsibility of spreading HuM network in Assam.
