SHILLONG: A boy died in the city allegedly after he was poisoned by his father on Thursday.
An FIR lodged at Rynjah police station said a woman and her son and daughter, both minors, were rushed to Nazareth Hospital for suspected food poisoning. The woman is a teacher.
The father, who is allegedly abusive, went to the hospital and took his son out. The child was later taken to Children’s Hospital.
The complaint was later lodged by their relatives.
SP (City) Steve Rynjah said Children’s Hospital was supposed to inform police about the child’s death but it did not do so.
As the boy was supposed to be cremated on Friday, the SP has directed the officer in-charge to conduct postmortem at Nazareth Hospital.
“We will have a thorough investigation into the matter,” he said, adding that the mother and the daughter are undergoing treatment.
