GUWAHATI : Specter of a long phase agitation looms large on Assam with Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) announcing that over 60 organisations will be intensifying their protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, with a state-wide protest from November 5.
“On November 3, the representatives of 60 organisations will meet to discuss our future course. We will discuss out strategies and plan accordingly to take forward our fight to safeguard the Axomiya jaati,”said the KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi.
“We will also distribute around 30 lakh leaflets across the state to expose the Bharatiya Janata party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on October 30,” he added.
The groups will meet at the Sudmerson Hall of Cotton University here on November 4.“Writers, artists, intellectuals and senior citizens will also be part of the meeting. We will seek valuable suggestions from people coming from all walks of life. On November 5, we will launch our protest. We won’t allow the passing the Bill,” said Gogoi.
The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill , 2016 was introduced in the Lok Sabha to amend the Citizenship Act, 1955. The Bill amends the Citizenship Act, 1955 to make illegal migrants who are Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan and had come to India to escape persecution in their home countries before December , 2018, eligible for citizenship In India.
