SHILLONG: The CBI has apprised the High Court of Meghalaya of the completion of twin probes into the education scam case and the investigating agency is awaiting nod from the head office in Delhi to proceed further.
“Since November 2 was the deadline to submit the findings to the court, the CBI has informed about the completion of the reports on the same day,” sources said on Monday.
According to sources, the CBI had already sought the approval of Delhi office to submit the charge sheet to the Sessions Court with a copy to the High Court.
As far as the separate CBI inquiry into 10 other centres is concerned, the CBI is ready with the report and it will be submitted to the chief secretary and the High Court.
The CBI, during the course of its investigation, found that the score sheets of the 10 centres were missing.
Action against those involved in destroying the score sheets is likely after the CBI submits the report in this regard.
As far as the second inquiry into the criminal aspect of the education scam is concerned, the CBI will seek prosecution sanction from the state government before filing charge sheet as per the Prevention of Corruption Act.
More than 400 persons, including the former Education Minister and Congress legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh, former education official JD Sangma and politicians, who had recommended names for appointment, were quizzed by the CBI.
Earlier during the hearing, the High Court had granted time till November 14 to submit the probe reports.
The Division Bench of the High Court had on November 2 last ordered the probes giving time frame of six months for completion. Later, the court extended six more months since May this year to complete the probe.
