SHILLONG: The 22nd annual convention of the Warjri clan was held at Mawkneng village, South West Khasi Hills on Friday. Thousands of kinfolks of the Warjri clan attended the convention for social interaction and cultural deliberation by the clan elders.
The president of the Seng Kur Warjri reminded the kinfolks about the need to strengthen the clan and inspire other Khasi clans for cultural awakening.
In this regard, he stated, “In the past, an Assamese politician encouraged Assamese men to marry Khasi ladies with the motive to assimilate the local people with the community and even offered reward for the same. Fortunately, the Khasi leaders of that period had resisted and fought for a separate State until it was achieved”.  He urged upon the people to be aware of the impending danger of political and cultural hegemony by the neighboring community and from the mainland. He said personal integrity is one solution to safeguard the interest of the clan and the Khasi community as a whole.
As part of the annual gathering of the Warjri clan, few meritorious kinfolks were felicitated. Later in the day, there were entertainment programmes of songs and dances performed by the children and the youth.
