SHILLONG: Meghalaya is confident it would be able to hold the National Games as per schedule in 2022 and not go the way of Goa and Chhattisgarh, which are already running behind schedule, even though work on putting the requisite infrastructure in place is yet to begin.
“We don’t want to follow Goa and Chhattisgarh and want to host the National Games as per schedule,” Sports Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh said on Thursday.
He said the government has already constituted several committees for conduct of the Games, and would expedite the entire process after the Lok Sabha elections slated for April 11 in the state.
“So far everything is going on smoothly,” Lyngdoh said even as he maintained that the government has worked out its strategy to ensure that the Games are held in the most satisfying manner and as per the timeline.
It may be mentioned that the 36th National Games in Goa has been postponed to September-October from its original schedule of March- April this year.
