SHILLONG: While the long pending project of constructing a flyover in Shillong city has been abandoned, the state government now has identified a few places where link roads can be constructed to ease the traffic snarls in the city.
The chairman of the State Planning Board, Lambor Malngiang, said that the Board has identified a link road from Laitkor towards Malki.
The Board has also identified another link road from Demthring towards Nongmynsong and Umpling.
The reports have been submitted to the government to expedite the whole process of turning the idea into a reality.
However, he admitted that land acquisition for the link roads will be a challenge but the government would overcome all the legal hurdles.
Expressing concern over the ever increasing traffic jams in the city, Malngiang added that even ambulances get stuck which is a matter of serious concern.
Terming traffic snarls in the city as a chronic disease, he added that if the idea of link roads materialises, the traffic snarls in the city would be reduced by 30-40 per cent.
