Step against dumping of fly ash

From Our Correspondent

JOWAI: Toughening its stand against the illegal disposal of fly-ash along the National Highway NH-44 by truck drivers transporting it to various cement plants of the Jaintia Hills district, the Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) has announced cash award of Rs. 2000 to residents of the district for informing about this dumping.

“We would to any group or individuals with Rs 2000 who could immediately inform us (JSU leaders) whenever such illegal disposal take place”, the JSU president, Elnathan Pale said. The JSU expressed concern over the non-implementation of the prohibitory order issued by the Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner under Section 144 CrPC recently banning dumping of fly-ash

It may be mentioned here that even after the issuance of the prohibitory order, illegal dumping of fly-ash along the section of the NH-44 right from Riat-turiem till Hynniewmer (7th Miles) is still on.
