AGARTALA:Chief Minister Manik Sarkar along with Chief Secretary on Sunday left for Guwahati to attend the final regional consultation on the approach paper of the 12th Five Year Plan.

The two-day’s brain storming session would begin on July 4 where all Northeastern Chief Ministers will remain present. Deputy Chairperson of the Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia will hear the views of the country’s most backward region.

Sources said, in spite of deprivation by the 13th Finance Commission, the Left Front government in Tripura would continue to focus on agriculture and its allied sector and infrastructure building.

Sarkar is expected to draw the attention of the state government’s stand on the BPL and Caste survey that was kicked off recently in Tripura.

The government has already made it clear that it would not accept any pre-determined BPL quota as it was happened in the last time.

At a workshop on the BPL and Caste survey, Chief Minister had emphasized on accurate figure of BPL families by conducting survey in every household of the state.Earlier, the BPL quota was fixed for all the Northeastern states without conducting survey that had ‘deprived’ Tripura during the past ten years.

While Tripura’s BPL population stands at 67 percent, the Centre had approved only 40 percent BPL families drawing sharp criticism from the state government.
