Ruling MDC alleges conspiracy
SHILLONG: The opposition MDCs of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) have decided to move a resolution in GHADC for the removal of Chairman Denang T Sangma.
In a letter to the Deputy Chairman, GHADC, Tura, Matrinson Momin, the MDCs said that they have lost confidence in Sangma, and requested the deputy chairman to urge the governor, to exercise his powers under Rule 36 (5), to call for a session of GHADC to enable them to move a resolution for removal of the chairman.
The MDCs also said that the GHADC chairman’s “acts of omission and commission” has “lowered the prestige and respect of the GHADC”.
Meanwhile, SRR Marak, Secretary, GHADC, has also written to Deputy Commissioner, WGH, Ram Singh, in this regard.
As many as 18 MDCs have called for the removal of the GHADC chairman.
However, an MDC from the ruling side, Augustine Marak, has termed the moving of resolution to be a “foul play” by the deputy chairman, GHADC.
“A letter written to the deputy chairman which was signed by himself? How come Matrinson Momin could write a letter to Matrinson Momin? That letter was not signed by any MDC. The original letter has not been signed by any MDC. They just enclosed the list of the MDCs which they have obtained for other purposes when they were camping in Paikan on the first week of January. They have enclosed that copy without consulting the MDCs,” Augustine said.
He also said that two MDCs among the 18, who had called for the removal of chairman, have denied their involvement.
“Two of the MDCs namely, Dormonath Ch Sangma and Smith Momin, had denied their involvement,” Augustine said.
He added that “the resolution to remove the Chairman under Rule 107 is only applicable in the session only. Any member cannot move resolution to remove the chairman”.
Stating that the opposition group has no numbers to apprise the governor, Augustine alleged that “the Deputy Chairman is going out of rule”.
“The letter which the deputy chairman received is very much incorrect,” Augustine said.
