GH contends with thieves, virus

SHILLONG: While the state is on a fight against the virus, the border area of Garo Hills are fighting against thieves entering from Bangladesh.
In a statement, Junstemey R Marak, chairman of Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) Dalu Unit said the people of Sesengpara under Phurakasia Police Station, South West Garo Hills are facing threat from the virus as well as thieves from Bangladesh.
Marak said on April 25, miscreants from Bangladesh stole a cattle from one Komila Hajong. Stating that with the lockdown, they are struggling to make end meet while thieves crossing the border make off with their livestocks. He also added that it is a regular occurance even with the BSF vigilantly patrolling the border.
The lockdown is strictly prohibiting even inter district travel within the state but thieves are crossing international borders into Garo Hills, said the statement.
Marak has urged the BSF to safeguard the lives and properties of the Garo border village and take action of those who are illegally crossing the border.
