SHILLONG: The Bharatiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangh (BGYP) on behalf of the Gorkha youths of the country will run a campaign for pulling down Paatal Lok web series on Amazon Prime Videos produced by actor Anushka Sharma. A statement by the BGYP said that in the second episode “Lost and Found” of the web series, the Nepali speaking community has been maligned. “The statement said that the actress is named Mary Lyngdoh, and she has been called a Nepali whore in the web series,” the statement said, adding that 10.5 million people in India speak Nepali. Stating that this is not just regressive but also racist stereotyping of Northeastern people, in particular the Gorkhas, the organisation said that the matter was brought to their notice by its office-bearers. The group also said they will move the Information and Broadcasting Ministry seeking intervention in the matter to pull it down and seek unconditional apology from over-the-top media services and the producer besides keeping Gorkha parliamentarians, lawmakers and social influencers in their loop during this action.
