SHILLONG: An assistant engineer (Electrical) of Central Public Works Department in Silchar was caught red-handed while accepting illegal gratification for clearing pending bills.
The CBI, ACB, Shillong Branch, on Friday, after laying a trap, caught the official — Sanjit Dutta — while demanding Rs 6,000 from Kantimoy Paul, proprietor of M/s Pritom Electrical Works in lieu of clearing his outstanding bills.
Raids at his office and residential premises were under way wherein incriminating documents have been seized.
CBI officials said that the accused is under arrest and he will be produced before special CBI Judge in Guwahati.
