SHILLONG: After a Mawbah resident alleged highhandedness on the part of police personnel posted at Jhalupara outpost, police sources have said that the man is overreacting.
According to the complaint lodged with the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner and a copy of which was sent to Prime Minister’s Office and Vishwa Hindu Parishad, the aggrieved resident, identified as Vicky Dey, said that since his wife was pregnant he had to go with her for treatment to Qualapatty on Thursday.
He said after purchasing some vegetables for Rs 1000, they reached Goenka Hospital at Jhalupara but they were stopped by the police personnel.
Dey alleged that a police woman had beaten them and later when they reached Mawbah point, another police official had snatched away the vegetables.
He sought action against the two police personnel for their alleged highhandedness.
When contacted, the East Khasi Hills SP, Sylvester Nongtnger, said that he has sought a report into the matter.
“The matter is under inquiry and we will wait for the report,” Nongtnger said.
However, police sources said that the allegation levelled by Dey is exaggerated and added that Dey and his wife had gone out from Lower Mawprem instead of going through the containment zone of Mawbah.
“It was natural that they were stopped near Goenka Hospital since they were entering a containment zone,” police sources said, adding that they were released later.
Police also claimed that purchase of large quantity of vegetables for Rs 1,000 is also exaggerated.
