Metbah visits flood-hit villages

Nongstoin: Assembly Speaker and Mairang MLA, Metbah Lyngdoh inspected the damages caused by floods and landslides in Mairang and Nongstoin areas of West Khasi Hills on Saturday.
The Speaker along with other officials visited the affected areas at Sohiong including the Shillong-Nongstoin Bypass, Kynshi area and Nongstoin Bypass at Pyndengrei.
Incessant rains in the last few days have resulted in massive landslides and damaged roads paralysing traffic and affecting normal life in the affected areas.
Lyngdoh asked the officials to clear the mud and slush from the area while citing that further flash flood was inevitable if the rain continued.
He directed officials of the concerned departments to find immediate solutions with regard to clearance of debris from the site and construction of protective walls.
He also directed the officials to assess the damages and loss suffered by people in landslides and has advised them to prepare detailed reports and submit the same to the higher authorities.
The Assembly Speaker also inspected the Sohpian-Nongstoin road which has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs 12 crore.
Officials assured to clear the debris in two-three days to ease the problems of commuters travelling via Nongstoin to Tura.
