MAWKYRWAT: The All Khasi Hills A.chik Federation (AKHAF) has urged the government to provide assistance the families whose houses were demolished when a herd of elephants wreaked havoc in Kalapahar village in South West Khasi Hills.
Official sources said that a total of 12 families from Kalapahar village, under Ranikor Civil Sub-Division, were rendered homeless after a herd of wild elephants attacked their village on October 11.
General secretary, AKHAF, John Sangma, said the Federation has requested the government and the district administration to provide necessary assistance including Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme to the affected families. Sangma also said that on Thursday, the Federation visited Kalapahar village and donated 10 kg of rice per family to 12 families who were affected in the wake of the elephant attacks.
