SHILLONG: The HSPDP will lodge a formal complaint to Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope against its sitting Pariong MLA Dr Adviser Pariong for deciding to contest from the Congress without first resigning as an MLA.
The party observed that Dr Pariong’s decision to contest from the Congress was a violation of the Tenth Schedule since he is still an HSPDP legislator, HSPDP spokesperson G Nonglong said.
He said that the sitting Pariong HSPDP legislator should have resigned before going all out to campaign as a Congress candidate from Nongstoin constituency.
However, the Assembly Secretariat received the letter of resignation of Dr Pariong after he got the Congress ticket.
HSPDP supremo HS Lyngdoh on Monday claimed that he was yet to receive the copy of Dr Pariong’s resignation as MLA.
Dr Pariong is contesting against the HSPDP supremo, his mentor.
Party list next week
HSPDP spokesperson G Nonglong said the party election committee is expected to meet in the coming days to finalise the list of candidates.
“We are delaying releasing the final list of candidates since we are yet to take a decision on many disgruntled ticket aspirants from both the Congress and UDP who have approach the HSPDP for ticket,” Nonglong said here on Monday.
“We would want to allot the ticket to only those who believe in the party ideology and not those who joins the party just for the sake of contesting the election,” Nonglong added.
He informed that the party has almost finalized the party candidates for Nongthymmai, Mylliem, Mawphlang, Mawryngkneng, Jirang and Saipung-Sutnga constituencies. When asked about the party manifesto, Nonglong said that they have already finalized the manifesto.   “We are planning to release the manifesto along with the final list of party candidates,” Nonglong added.
It may be mentioned that the HSPDP has so far named eight candidates to contest the February 23 election.
