Guwahati: Thousands people from all walks of life and all corners of the State have converged at Bishwa Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika Sammonoy Kshetra at Barpeta in Assam where the 72 nd session of Asom Sahitya Sabha (ASS) is being held at the presence of luminaries of State’s literary world as well as distinguished guests from literary fields from various other States of the country.

As the session of the apex literary organization in the State is being held with all pomp and gaiety, the newly-elected President of the ASS, noted litterateur Imran Shah taking the charge of the literary organization advocated for compilation of history of all the places of Assam based on scientific research.

He said wonderful historical facts were strewn all over the Assam where all the small places have their unique history. He said the branches of the ASS could play a major role in compilation of such local history.

The new Sabha president said, “A nation can’t guide itself on the right path to the future without properly knowing its past and the present.”

Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi who visited the ASS conference on Monday said notwithstanding the conflicts among various communities in the State, the glorious march of Asom Sahitya Sabha would not been hampered.

He said such conflicts would not be able to throw spanner in the overall progress of the State and its people.

Regarding the changed global scenario, the newly-elected president Shah said, “Realization had dawned on the people that there was need to learn more languages to prosper in one’s life. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that one should ignore the mother tongue. While saying mother language I am not referring to only Assamese language but all the local languages spoken by various communities in the Northeast. Asom Sahitya Sabha being the biggest literary organization in the region has the responsibility towards facilitating growth and development of other regional languages in vogue in the region.”
