MAWKYRWAT, Dec 8: With the Congress in Meghalaya being subjected to a spate of setbacks of late, NPP leader, Rowell Lyngdoh, has contended that it will be a herculean task for the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president, Vincent H Pala, to give a new vigour to the grand-old party in the state.
Asked if he plans to go back to Congress, Lyngdoh said, “I don’t know for others but it is true that he (Pala) had contacted me, and I told him that I appreciate his work but he came at a very difficult phase to reorganise the Congress party.”
“I also told him that the Congress party will be able to strengthen themselves in Meghalaya only after solving their leadership crisis at the central level,” he added.
Arguing that NPP is the only alternative to the Congress in Meghalaya, Lyngdoh said, “These regional parties are small parties. But what we see is that only the NPP can lead our people to the better tomorrow,” Lyngdoh said.
Appreciating the endeavours of the newly appointed MPCC chief to bring back former Congress leaders to the party, he said that Pala will have a tough time bolstering and reorganising the party in state because convincing the leaders to return to the party is not going to be easy.  Lyngdoh also made it clear that he will not contest the 2023 Assembly elections and will instead focus on strengthening the NPP in Mawkyrwat in particular and in the state in general.
