SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills district J Lyngdoh has indicated that he will act on the recent complaint filed by the headman of Ryngku Bazar, Mawsynram.

A complaint was filed on Monday by the headman against some miscreants who disrupted a meeting organized to discuss implementation of Mahathma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) on July 8.

Dulal Marak, the headman, said the disruption of the meeting held at Ryngku Bazar would tantamount to contempt of lawful authority, as the MGNREGS job card holders left the meeting due to the tensed situation in the area. The headman alleged that acting Sardar of Dwara Nongtyrnem and his men were behind the disruption of the meeting.

It is learnt that the BDO, Mawsynram had convened a meeting of the villagers to discuss implementation of MNREGS scheme and also to get first hand information in this regard after he was elected as the Chairman of the committee in the village for the implementation of the scheme. However, during the course of the meeting, a group of people came and disrupted the meeting, it is alleged. As a result, the meeting was later boycotted by the villagers who were annoyed by the presence of the outside people since the officer who was entrusted by the BDO could not carryon with his duty.

“As a representative of all Garo villages, I have filed a title suit along with miscellaneous petition before the Judge of the Subordinate District Court in Shillong,” said Marak, who has also provided the names of the culprits.

The headman also urged the DC to pass necessary orders for grant of jobs to the job card holders under the scheme.
