SHILLONG: The Shillong High Court will be formally inaugurated by Chief Justice of India, Justice Altamas Kabir in the presence of Union Law Minister, Ashwani Kumar on Monday.

Justice T Meena Kumari was sworn in as the first Chief Justice of the Shillong High Court by Governor RS Mooshahary at Raj Bhavan on Saturday, paving the way for a full-fledged court in the State.

The establishment of a full-fledged High Court in Meghalaya is expected to reduce the growing number of pending cases, besides providing employment opportunities to the youths of the State.

Besides Meghalaya, Manipur and Tripura are the other two states in the North East which will have their own high courts following the amendment of the North East Re-Organization Act, 1971.
