WILLIAMNAGAR, March 29: The pressure groups, who have been vehemently protesting against the alleged shoddy construction of Rongjeng Model College, on Tuesday picketed government offices but were later assured of an investigation into the allegations by the Rongjeng BDO. However, the assurance was rejected by the agitating groups, who are now seeking the same in writing.
The groups — GSU, FKJGP, GSMC and AYWO — on Tuesday began their two-day picket of government offices under Rongjeng C&RD Block as part of their protest against the alleged shoddy construction of the Rongjeng Model College.
The groups, who have been protesting against the issue for over two years now, intensified their agitation only recently.
Taking cognisance of the intensified protests, a technical committee was set up by the Director of State Education and Literacy to scrutinise the project, including the alleged poor construction. However, the inaction, despite the formation of the committee, has what rendered the pressure groups vexed, who recently announced resumption of their protests.
“We met the BDO of Rongjeng today who assured us that the technical team would soon reach to inquire into the complaints. We, however, asked for a written assurance within a week from today from the administration as despite the technical committee being formed over a month ago, they haven’t even paid a visit,” said GSU president, Rattu Sangma.
